Eyebrow transplantation is one of the most frequent interventions performed in our partner centers in Istanbul. Eyebrow transplantation, an intervention that takes a few hours, can be easily done with local anesthetics.

The follicles (single hair strands) prevailed by FUE technique with the help of the micromotor are transplanted, one by one, in the eyebrow area affected by hair loss. For eyebrows, the micro-grafts can be taken from different areas of the body; still the preferred area is the nape of the patient’s neck. The hair can be removed from the arms, axilla or genitals, but the experience proved best results with the hair from the neck area. Hair strands on the arms, especially in women, might be very thin, but not resistant enough. Also, the angle of the hair follicles in the genital area may differ from one person to another. If eyebrow hair loss is not extended, the intervention can be performed with excellent results in approximately 30 minutes. In some cases, when our patients wish to thicken their eyebrows, the transplantation can be done by determining the desired shape according to the angle of every graft. After eyebrow transplantation, they tend to grow more in certain periods. This is why patient will need to shorten them regularly. This is not an annoying process; it only takes several minutes once every 15 days or even monthly, depending on the individual situation. Generally, when determining the eyebrow shape, the patient’s opinion is requested. In most cases, in order to obtain an eyebrow with the proper shape and thickness, a shape correlated to the patient’s physiognomy is chosen, combined with the patient’s desires. In case the patient doesn’t have a specific request, a computer generated ideal shape is determined and the transplantation is performed, only after having the patient’s approval. Depending on individual needs, grafting in the eyebrow area can vary from 40-50 follicles up to 400-500 follicles. Transplantation process may differ from one person to another, as people tend to have different eyebrow shapes. The transplanting angle for the follicles has to be very carefully prepared, because eyebrows are a very distinct feature on our face.

Eyebrow transplantation is a painless process performed with local anesthesia in a short time, about 1-2 hours, with remarkable results. There is no pain or discomfort involved after the transplantation intervention. It takes 4 to 6 weeks for the eyebrows to achieve the desired and projected shape.

eyebrows hair loss causes

Just as any other hair on the human body, eyebrows may be affected by hair loss. Eyebrow hair loss can have multiple causes and can be partial or total. Eyebrow transplantation is most often requested by women. Eyebrow loss most frequently appears in persons who use contour or permanent makeup. Also, attempts to removing tattoos with acids by unqualified persons can cause massive damages. Scars can remain on large tissue areas, making eyebrow transplantation impossible on these affected tissues.

Eyebrow loss can also be caused by stress. Stress related eyebrow hair loss can be both temporary and permanent. So, if eyebrow loss is considered to be stress generated, the best thing to do is just wait for up to 6 months, because precocious treatments can deteriorate the existent follicles. The most common way to identify loss caused by stress is requesting information from the patient; this is why professional approach is very important. Patients need to be explained that this situation can be temporary and they should consult a specialist. If 6 months later the hair loss in eyebrows continues, then eyebrow transplantation is recommended.

Eyebrow hair loss can also be cause by traumas. Hair follicles can be totally or partly lost in case of injuries in this specific area. The same thing happens in case burns in the face area. The distinctive factor in the success of the treatment of eyebrow loss caused by trauma is the extent of the scar tissue. If the scar area is not very large and the integrity of the tissue is preserved, eyebrow transplantation is an option. On the other hand, if the skin has lost its normal consistency, eyebrow transplantation may no longer be the solution.

Hair loss in eyebrows varies from one patient to another. Losses may appear in the areas close to the nose root or in the external parts of the eyebrow. Regardless the area, the treatment for permanent eyebrow hair loss is eyebrow transplantation. Specialists in our partner clinics recommend that patients should avoid treatment methods that they don’t know much about and that may deteriorate their eyebrows. Many of these methods can have irreversible results.
